With artistes like Prasad Oak, Adinath Kothare, and Mrunal Kulkarni taking on the mantle of direction, Marathi cinema will see another actress joining their ranks. Mrunmayee Deshpande, who has acted in several films and TV serials, will make her foray into direction with the upcoming Mann Fakiraa.
The motion poster of the film sees the lead cast of Suvrat Joshi, Sayali Sanjeev, Ankit Mohan, and Anjali Patil sitting on a wooden bench with a beautiful view of nature in the background. The cheery title song of the film accompanies the first look at the cast.
Deshpande said her directorial debut will talk about human relationships and show how the younger generation approaches it. Speaking about her film and its subject, she said in a press release, "The youngsters today look the marital bond much beyond a binding of relationship. They have started looking at it from a broader perspective. They have more maturity in their relationship now and do check first if spending the entire life with him/her is possible. They expect a companion and a friend in the husband/wife rather than just a namesake relationship."
She went to say that she always wanted to be director and the decision was weighing on her mind for a decade. "Direction is not new to me. I had won a prize for the best direction for a one-act play directed by me when I was in the third year of the degree course. I was waiting for an opportune time to shoulder the responsibility. The directorial stint needs a certain amount of maturity and an adequate amount of experience learned from life. I think I have to shoulder the responsibility at the right time," she stated.
Deshpande has also penned the story and said the subject of human relationships was close to her heart. "Human relationships are something which needs to be learned by going in-depth of them. They become interesting if showcased with simplicity and fineness. I have tried to express the delicate relationship and its every little aspect through this story," she elaborated.
Mann Fakiraa is slated to release on 14 February 2020.
