Ritu Nanda, daughter of Raj Kapoor, dies at 71

She had been suffering from cancer since 2013 and was in the US for treatment as well.

Ritu Nanda, daughter of the yesteryear star Raj Kapoor, passed away today, 14 January, at the age of 71 in Mumbai. She had been suffering from cancer since 2013 and was in the US for treatment as well.

She is survived by her two children Nikhil and Natasha, and her grandchildren Navya Naveli and Agastya. Her husband Rajan Nanda, an industrialist, died in August 2018 after a brief illness.  

She was the granddaughter of the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor and sister of actors Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. She was the mother-in-law of Shweta Bachchan Nanda, daughter of Amitabh Bachchan.

Till her death she was the chief executive officer (CEO) of Ritu Nanda Insurance Services (RNIS). She has her name included in the Guinness Book of Records for selling 17 thousand pension policies in a single day.

She also presented the book Raj Kapoor: The One and Only Showman which featured her father speaking about his famous films, and included Kapoor's contemporaries sharing their views about the filmmaker.

Her niece Riddhima Kapoor Sahni shared the news of her death in an Instagram post some time back where she wrote, "To the kindest most gentle person I‘ve ever met - They don’t make them like you anymore - RIP bua".
