Manas Basu's directorial debut Chobiyal (2020) features Saswata Chatterjee and Srabanti Chatterjee in the leads. For the first time, Saswata will be seen paired with Srabanti, who is mostly known for her mainstream entertainment films.
In the film, Saswata plays Habol, a passionate photographer. However, his subject of interest is dead bodies, and he has built his studio besides a crematorium. Habol is close with Kanak Da (Amitabh Bhattacharjee), a wedding photographer. Habol is left in distress when Kanak Da suddenly leaves his village.
Habol falls in love with Labonyo (Srabanti) and they start living together in the studio. As his obsession with Labonyo rises, people begin talking about them and start cornering him as well.
The twist takes place when they both suddenly disappear from the village, leaving everyone confused and awestruck.
In the poster of the film, Labonyo can be seen as a married woman. There is an image of a funeral pyre, referring to the crematorium, while Habol’s expression is distressed.
Chobiyal has been written by Indronil Boksi and the music has been composed by Megh Banerjee. It is slated for release this February.
