In this age of biopics, we can now add another name. It’s not a sportsperson or a film star or a politician. It's... an advocate.

A movie will now be made on the life of special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, the man who prosecuted the case against Ajmal Kasab, the sole member of the group of Pakistani terrorists that attacked Mumbai on 26 November 2008 to be captured alive.

Titled Nikam, the biopic will be directed by Umesh Shukla, best known for OMG! Oh My God (2012).

An official statement from the makers said, “Nikam will tell the story of the man behind the most fascinating, controversial and toughest cases ever fought in India.”

Some of the other high-profile cases that came Nikam's way were the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, the Gulshan Kumar murder case of 1997 and the Pramod Mahajan murder case of 2006.

Director Shukla said in an official statement, “We are thrilled to be making a movie on the life of such a captivating and motivating person. Not all heroes wear capes; some wear the black coat. And Nikam is a true hero. He is India’s avenger, who believes in justice, not revenge.”

Nikam said he had always been hesitant whenever someone approached him to write a book or make a movie on his life, but he agreed this time. “I have been pursued for years to write a book or make a movie," the lawyer said. "I was reluctant as I have a huge responsibility towards my victims (sic). But I agreed to collaborate with this talented team as I trust them to tell a story that will hopefully inspire and do justice to what we have fought for.”

Shukla’s previous project was a biopic web-series on the life of prime minister Narendra Modi, titled simply Modi.  Nikam will go on the floor soon.
