The film is based on Anna Bhau Sathe’s popular novel Avadi. It seems the film also explores caste issues.

The trailer for Ibhrat opens with Kishore Kadam introducing the story and its hero and heroine in his poetic style. Then the tone shifts and it becomes a social drama that sometimes bears resemblance to Marathi films from an earlier era.

Malhar is a wrestler who is in peak physical condition. Though it is a little too early to say, Sanjay Shejwal looks promising in the role of Malhar.

Shilpa Thakre plays Maya, a free-spirited young woman. Thakre is still something of a newcomer to cinema, having only two films under her belt so far.

The film also features Suresh Vishwakarma, who again plays a menacing patriarch as in Sairat (2016). There appears to be a caste angle to the plot, but the trailer does not make that clear.

Ibhrat is directed by first-time filmmaker Pravin Kshirsagar. Interestingly, the story is based on the novel Avadi by renowned folk musician and poet Anna Bhau Sathe. It will certainly be interesting to see how the makers translate the popular literary work on the big screen.

Ibhrat is slated for release on 21 February 2020. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
