The song 'Ek Tukda Dhoop' from Anubhav Sinha's Thappad (2020) is a melancholic song about a once-shared love and the sweet memories of it. It begins with the inciting incident when Pavail Gulati's character slaps his wife one fateful night.
The visuals juxtapose the memories the characters of Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati once shared with each other to the current situation where she contemplates her decision to leave him. While her husband tries to make amends, his efforts go in vain as Pannu has turned completely cold to his efforts.
Singer Raghav Chaitanya brings the correct amount of pathos to the song with his soulful rendition. With this solo song, Chaitanya makes full use of the opportunity.
Composer Anurag Saikia’s keeps it minimal, largely depending on the guitar and the flute. It's a slow tune that relies more on melody than percussions. But the standout feature of this song is the meaningful lyrics by Shakeel Azmi. They not only express all the emotions beautifully, but are also perfectly in sync with the tempo.
Thappad, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is due to be released on 28 February. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
