Sraboner Dhara song 'Asthir Somoy Reprise': Reflects the sombre, sensitive mood of the film

The song 'Asthir Somoy Reprise' from Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s upcoming film Sraboner Dhara (2020) highlights the sombre yet sensitive mood of the film. Composed by Ashu Chakraborty and Abhishek Banerjee and written by Durba Sen, the song has been done justice by Iman Chakraborty’s passionate rendition. Her tonal quality suits the song with mostly straight notes. The song has an operatic graph in its composition, which has allowed the vocalist to gradually lift the mood of the song and the film, respectively.

The visuals focus on two couples, Soumitra Chatterjee and Gargee Roy Chowdhury, and Parambrata Chatterjee and Basabdutta Chatterjee. The visuals show the former couple in various shades, but the latter only seem to be growing distant from each other until a scene towards the end of the song, when they hug each other. Their moments of miscommunication and the lack of ability to accept each other as they are have been mostly highlighted in the song.

One of the various shades in which Soumitra and Roy Chowdhury are presented, the dominant one shows how deeply they are in love with each other. Soumitra plays an Alzheimer's disease patient in the film and as a remedy, his wife (Roy Chowdhury) has been advised to spend as much time with him, to help him exercise his memory. It is evident that she takes utmost care of him and at the same time, she also gets extremely puzzled and helpless, when he loses his memory and unintentionally makes situation difficult for her.

It is also interesting to see how the directors have chosen to show that love can be overcome by passionate dedication, despite hurdles and an age gap; while on the other hand, a young couple probably fail to stick to each other, likely because they don't know themselves enough.

The contrast of equation is very evident in the visuals of the song and the composition does full justice to it. Sen's words of 'Asthir Somoy', which translates into restless moments, signify the trying times of both the couples. While one struggle to stick to each other, the other end up rekindling their love, while struggling to know themselves.
