With this, the month of December is getting packed with films featuring big stars. The Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt-starrer Brahmastra is being released on 4 December and the Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chadha will be out on 25 December.
Earlier, Maidaan would have had just a week's unchallenged run at the box office since Brahmastra is being released on 4 December. With the new release date, the film now has two full weeks before Laal Singh Chadha releases on Christmas, though it is still likely to face competition from Brahmastra in its second week.
Maidaan sees Devgn play the late Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim who changed the face of the game in the country in the 1950s and 1960s.
