Gully Boy, Uri, Article 15 lord over the nominations for the 65th Filmfare awards

The awards function is slated to take place on 15 February in Guwahati, Assam, for the first time.

Following the technical Filmfare awards held on Sunday, the list of major nominations for the 65th Filmfare awards was released today.

Unsurprisingly, Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy (2019), the VIcky Kaushal-starrer Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) and Anubhav SInha's Article 15 (2019) have cornered quite a few nominations.

The annual awards function is slated to take place in Guwahati, Assam, on 15 February. This is the first time the event will be held in the Northeast.

The Best Film award sees heavy competition from the commercial and radical streams with Gully Boy, Article 15, Uri: The Surgical Strike and Nitesh Tiwari's Chhichhore (2019) among the nominations. Vasan Bala's desi superhero Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota (2019) is also among the nominees.

For the Best Actor trophy, the race is among Ranveer Singh for his performance in Gully Boy, Vicky Kaushal in Uri: The Surgical Strike, Shahid Kapoor for the controversial Kabir SIngh (2019), and Akshay Kumar for Kesari (2019).

Ayushmann Khurrana has the distinction of being nominated in both the popular and the critics' category for Best Actor, with Bala (2019) earning him a popular nomination and his performance in Article 15 picked out by the critics.

Among the Best Actors (Female), Kangana Ranaut and Bhumi Pednekar lead the pack. While Ranaut has one popular nomination, for Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi (2019) and one from the critics, for Judgementall Hai Kya (2019), Pednekar has been nominated for Saand Ki Aankh (2019) and Sonchiriya (2019) in the critics' section.

Alia Bhatt (Gully Boy), Vidya Balan (Mission Mangal), and Rani Mukerji (Mardaani 2) are among the other nominees in the popular section. 

Anubhav Sinha's Article 15 has also been nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Original Story (Anubhav Sinha and Gaurav Solanki), alongside Gully Boy, Mission Mangal and Sonchiriya.

Akshaye Khanna has received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Male) for his performance as the unyielding advocate in Section 375 while Kamini Kaushal has become one of the oldest nominees for Best Supporting Actor (Female) for her performance in Kabir Singh.
