Box office: Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Bhoot fail the first Monday test

Ayushmann Khurrana finally hits the skids after a dream run that began in mid-2017.

Ayushmann Khurrana has been enjoying a great phase at the box office since mid-2017 with a succession of hits to his credit. However, his run of success appears to have hit a speed breaker with his latest, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.

While the Hitesh Kewalya film may not be a flop, it is also unlikely to reach 'hit' status, certainly not the sort of hit the actor has got used to delivering.

After a decent opening weekend, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan saw a big drop in collections on its first Monday yesterday, making just Rs3.50 crore nett, according to figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

When the drop on the first Monday is more than 50% of the opening day's collection (Rs 9 crore in this case), trade pundits see it as a cause for worry.

According to our trade sources, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan was made on a budget of about Rs45 crore and the film's collection at the domestic box office in its first four days is Rs34.25 crore nett. But with Monday's number dipping alarmingly, the film's second-weekend collection may be what finally makes the difference between an average film and a hit.

The other release of last weekend, Vicky Kaushal-starrer Bhoot: The Haunted Ship, also saw a drop of more than 50% in its collections on its first Monday.

The Bhanu Pratap Singh film could garner only Rs2 crore nett on Monday, for a total collection thus far of Rs18 crore nett against a budget of Rs30 crore.
