The Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan had a decent first weekend return of Rs30.75 crore nett, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. Directed by Hitesh Kewalya, the film also stars Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Manu Rishi.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan opened with a decent collection of Rs9.25 crore nett, but its collections over the next two days (Saturday and Sunday) remained in the similar zone at Rs10.75 crore and Rs11 crore. The jump on Sunday should have been higher.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is based on gay lovers played by Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar and how the latter’s family gives its approval to their relationship. This is probably why the film hasn’t done as well as Khurrana’s previous two releases Dream Girl (2019) and Bala (2019). The subject of homosexuality is still taboo in many Indian households.
According to our trade sources, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan was made on a budget of around Rs45 crore.
Meanwhile, the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Bhoot: The Haunted Ship had a below-average opening-weekend collection, making just Rs16 crore nett. According to our trade sources, the Bhanu Pratap Singh-directed film has been made on a budget of Rs30 crore.
For both Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Bhoot, their first Monday numbers today will determine their eventual fate at the box office.
