Guilty teaser: A conflicted Kiara Advani sets out to find the truth

Directed by Ruchi Narain, the Netflix original seeks to unravel a rape allegation from the perspective of the accused's girlfriend.

The trailer of Ruchi Narain's Guilty was intriguing with its Rashomon-style investigation of the truth. Set to stream on Netflix on 6 March 2020, the film tracks the unravelling of the rape allegation levelled against the lead singer of a band, from the perspective of his girlfriend, played by Kiara Advani. The Netflix original is backed by the digital arm of Dharma Productions, Dharmatic.

The new teaser features Advani's Nanki arguing back and forth with herself as she tries to figure out the truth. The teaser is an addition to the red herrings thrown around in the trailer. While a part of Nanki hates Tanu (Akansha Ranjan Kapoor), the other part feels that she needs to look at the issue more objectively. The video captures this internal conflict, with Nanki sitting in a chair, akin to an interrogation setup, and arguing with the voices in her own head. There is also the question of whether VJ (Gurfateh Singh Pirzada) did rape Tanu, or is he simply the victim of a vendetta?

This sense of conflict is one of the central motifs of Narain's film, and seems to be its driving element. The film also features Gurfateh Singh Pirzada, Taher Shabbir, and Niki Walia in key roles.

Directed by Narain, Guilty is Advani's second Netflix project after Lust Stories (2018). The actress is also awaiting the release of three major projects, Shershaah, Indoo Ki Jawaani (2020) and Laxmmi Bomb (2020) later this year.
