Director Rohan Sen’s debut film Ebhabei Golpo Hok (2019) is all set to hit the screens on 13 March. Featuring Ananda S Choudhuri, Joy Sengupta, Santilal Mukherjee, Bibriti Chatterjee and Rupanjana Mitra, the film tells the story of a director’s unfulfilled aspirations, and his subsequent inspiration by a writer’s journey of life.
Sen has made a few short films earlier, some of which have been screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival. “After the exposure at the film festival, I thought of making a feature film. I had already started conceiving the story of Ebhabei Golpo Hok," he said. The director feels the screening of his short films at the festival helped him in landing a producer for the movie. Producer Amrita De has also lent her voice for three songs in the film.
"I have attempted an innovative narrative for the film and received immense support from senior artistes as well as the entire cast and crew,” says Sen. He said that he did not have to struggle much to get their support. “They have also been quite involved in the process of making the film. We have all made this film together,” added the debut director.
“I was told that I had a special appearance in the film” said Mitra, who plays Sengupta’s wife in the film. “I might not have had a big role in the film, but my character is crucial to the story,” added the actress, who was inspired by the passion displayed by her young director.
“I have shared most screen space with Joy in the film. We have known each other for a long time. I had a great time working with him," said the actress, who has mostly acted in television series and is now eager to work in more films.
Mitra believes that the film has an important message to deliver. “I loved the content of Rohan’s film. The way he looks at cinema. I am sure his hard work will have a praiseworthy outcome. Time will tell the rest, as Rohan gets to do more work in the future,” she said.
In the film, Sengupta plays a director, who takes an incomplete story written by the protagonist Siddhartha, played by Choudhuri, to the production controller. Mukherjee plays the production controller, who helps in finding the rest of the story. “I don’t think I have seen such passion in a director who is so young. And for him to conceive an idea, write a script and take the decision of making a feature film is really praiseworthy,” said the veteran actor.
According to the veteran, Sen is as old as his son Rwitobroto Mukherjee, who has acted in Generation Aami (2018), Goyenda Junior (2019), Ghawre Bairey Aaj (2019) and Dwitiyo Purush (2020). “A few years ago, my son made a short film and asked me to be the producer and I could not refuse. Similarly, when Rohan approached me to play the character, I couldn’t say no to him,” he said. According to the actor, his character in the film is quite different from the ones he has played so far.
