Amyra Dastur joins Excel Entertainment's cast for Dongri To Dubai

The actress will be part of the web-series directed by Shujaat Saudagar.

Amyra Dastur might be heading into the deep murky gang land with her next project. The actress has been signed on for Excel Entertainment's upcoming web-series adapted from the bestselling novel, Dongri To Dubai. Directed by Shujaat Saudagar, the series will revolve around the stories from S Hussain Zaidi's bestselling novel.

Speaking of the project, Dastur said, "This came about as most offers do. I got a call from a casting director asking me to come in for an audition. They didn't tell me what it was about, who was going to be in it or who was backing it. They just gave me a character brief and dialogues to memorise.

"I did my best and after a few days, I was called back for a second audition because they wanted to check if I could do the scenes in a different way to show my versatility. Everyone seemed happy with my performance and Shujaat called me to the office for a narration. I loved what I heard and then requested the team to send me all the episodes to read before I gave them an official confirmation."

The actress was last seen in the Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut-starrer, Judgementall Hai Kya (2019), Dastur will reportedly play a Parsi girl in the series, Dongri To Dubai. Speaking of her role, she said, "For me, it's all about the script and the set-up. This show is adapted from a gripping book which I’ve read and loved! The power crazed gangsters and world of crime is what interested me the most."

Dastur added, "It's set in the 1970s and 1980s so you get to see a different side to Mumbai, the birth of Mumbai in a way. I have never done a period-based project and the fact that we get to go back in time with this one was magic to my ears. The fact the Excel Entertainment is producing it was the cherry on the cake."

Produced by Excel Entertainment, the series will be directed by Shujaat Saudagar (Rock On 2, 2016), and will begin with 10 episodes in the first part.

Dastur has also signed on for another Amazon Prime Video series, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, featuring Saif Ali Khan. In addition, the actress will also be seen alongside Kunal Kapoor in Koi Jaane Na, backed by T-Series.
