Veteran actress Kishori Ballal died on Tuesday, 18 February, in Bengaluru of old age. She was 82.
Ballal was best known for her act in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades (2004) where she played Kaveri Amma. Her performance in the film moved many.
Gowariker expressed his condolences to Ballal on Twitter. “Heartbroken!" he wrote. "Terribly sad about the passing away of Kishori Ballal ji!! Kishori ji... you will be remembered for your generously kind, warm and affable persona! And your unforgettable performance as Kaveri Amma in Swades!”

Ballal played the foster moster who raises Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Mohan, in Swades.
Khan also paid tribute to her and revealed that she was against his habit of smoking. “May her soul rest in peace. Kishori ‘Amma’ will be sorely missed. Especially how she used to reprimand me for smoking. May Allah look after her,” he tweeted.

Ballal mostly worked in Kannada films in a career spanning 15 years. She also acted in many Kannada television serials.
She also acted in a few other Hindi films like Quick Gun Murugun (2009) and Aiyya (2012) and the Marathi film Carry On Maratha (2015).
