Promising an opulent spectacle, the teaser opens to the visual of an empty throne in a daunting room.

After having worn the producer's shoes for a while, Karan Johar is back in the director's chair. The filmmaker revealed the first teaser for the upcoming Mughal period epic, Takht, on Saturday, 1 February.

The teaser features voiceovers by Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal, who play Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh, respectively, in the film. Promising an opulent spectacle, the teaser opens to the visual of an empty throne in a daunting room.

The voiceover begins with Ranveer Singh saying the path to the throne always led Mughal princes through the graveyards of loved ones. This is followed by Vicky Kaushal's voice saying, "If only the path had led through love, India's history might have been different.''

The film, which also stars Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, is now set for release on 24 December 2021. Earlier reports suggested that the film was to have been released in the Diwali weekend of 2020.

Backed by Dharma Productions, Takht is likely to go on the floors in March, with Karan Johar planning for a long schedule in Europe and Rajasthan to replicate the grandeur of the Mughal era.
