The beloved characters of Bunty and Babli are set to return once again to con people. Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020), the sequel to the 2005 hit, Bunty Aur Babli, is due to be released on 26 June. The new date announcement from the makers, Yash Raj Films, features the same logo as the previous film, which was directed by Shaad Ali.
In a press release, director Varun V Sharma shared, “For [the] whole of India, Bunty Aur Babli (2005) is and will always be part of cinema that we watched while growing up. It is truly a much loved film and has huge nostalgia value attached to it.
“When we were designing the logo of Bunty Aur Babli 2, we were certain that we would keep the original logo as it pays a perfect homage to the first film, which is part of India’s pop culture history. I’m guessing this move will be much loved by cine lovers as it evokes a big sense of nostalgia,” he said.
The new film features a familiar Babli, with Rani Mukerji returning as the character. However, Saif Ali Khan steps into the character of Bunty, replacing Abhishek Bachchan from the first film. The stars have previously acted together in films like Hum Tum (2004), Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007) and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008).
Joining the duo will be a new generation Bunty and Babli with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh. Chaturvedi recently picked up the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) award for his role as MC Sher in Zoya Akthar’s Gully Boy (2019), while Wagh will make her big screen debut with this film. She was seen as a member of the Indian National Army in Kabir Khan’s Amazon Prime web-series, The Forgotten Army: Azadi Ke Liye, which began streaming on 24 January.
Produced by Aditya Chopra, the sequel will feature music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Watch the date announcement below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
