Sanjay Mishra plays a former character actor, Sudheer, who wants to reclaim the lost glory of his acting career, in Hardik Mehta’s Kaamyaab (2020). In the 1970s and 1980s, Sudheer is part of almost every film, sometimes as a doctor, a cop, or even a henchman named Shera, one of his more famous roles.
However small his role might be, he gets a spectacular death scene once in a while. But his glory days are his behind him. So when a fan alerts him to the fact that he has acted in 499 films so far, he begins his search for the elusive 500th film to complete his legacy.
But does the magic number bring him any satisfaction? A casting director, played by Deepak Dobriyal, actively works to complete his dream, while Sudheer’s daughter cautions him against the danger of films versus reality.
Mehta, who is directing his first feature film, has previously directed the award-winning film Amdavad Ma Famous (2015). He has also written the screenplay for Trapped (2017) starring Rajkummar Rao and has his second film, Roohi Afzana (2020), with Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, lined up for release on 5 June.
Kaamyaab, which is written by Mehta, is due to be released on 6 March. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you would be keen to watch the film.
