With her stylish shades and the fighter plane hovering in the background, the first look brings back the image of very stylish air force pilots. The direct comparison could be made to Tom Cruise's superhit 1986 drama, Top Gun. The film had Cruise playing a hot-headed fighter pilot, code name Maverick.
The induction of female air force pilots into the Indian air force in 2016 will mark the genesis of the story. The film, written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, will mark the second film about the Indian armed forces by RSVP Movies. Last year, Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) proved a blockbuster with a return of Rs244 crore at the box office.
In a statement, producer Ronnie Screwvala said, "We made an army-centric/army based film with Uri:The Surgical Strike. Tejas is our dedication to the brave fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force who always put the country first. We are excited and honoured to share this brave story with viewers and hope it inspires many more women to join the air force."
The lead actress of the film, Ranaut said, "Very often the sacrifices made by our brave men and women in the uniform go unnoticed by the nation. Tejas is a film where I have the honour of playing the role of one such air force pilot that puts country before self. I hope we instil a sense of patriotism and pride in the youth of today with this film. I am looking forward to the journey with Sarvesh and Ronnie on this one."
Director Sarvesh Mewara will make his directorial debut with the project. The filmmaker has earlier directed a short film, The Girl & The Autorickshaw (2012). Speaking of Tejas, he said, "When your debut film has Ronnie Screwvala as the producer and Kangana Ranaut as the lead actor, going all out to chase your dreams feels worth it."
The film will go on the floors later this summer, and is scheduled for a release in April 2021.
