Divya Khosla Kumar, who made her acting debut in Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo (2004), makes a comeback to acting with Milap Zaveri’s Satyameva Jayate 2 (2020) later this year. She will be seen sharing screen space with actor John Abraham in the film.
The first Satyameva Jayate (2018), showed Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee involved in a cat-and-mouse chase, as the former goes about killing corrupt police officers. The second film is likely to feature Khosla Kumar in a strong female role.
Khosla Kumar, who has already begun reading sessions, said, “John and I take a strong stand against corruption in the film. Milap is shedding light on an important topic."
Her character is different from the actress’s real self. She added that the director has etched a strong protagonist for her. The film's shooting is expected to begin this April.
“Milap has written the line, ‘Bhartiya naari sab par bhari [The Indian woman is stronger than everyone]’ for me, which speaks a lot about my role,” she said.
Khosla Kumar is hoping to sign on more projects later. “I feel there is a lot of untapped potential in me. This is a brilliant time to be an actor in the industry as it’s not about stars any more, but about content. Talent is being recognised,” she shared.
Khosla Kumar has not remained idle since making her acting debut in 2004, She directed Yaariyan (2014) and Sanam Re (2016), and acted in the short film BulBul (2017). She is also a co-producer on the Ajay Devgn-starrer Bhuj: The Pride of India (2020), with husband Bhushan Kumar.
"I wanted to learn about things like cinematography and editing. The hunger to learn, drove me towards the technical side of filmmaking,” she explained.
Her husband Bhushan Kumar is one of the busiest producers in Hindi cinema, with over 20 films lined up for release this year.
“He has worked extremely hard in life. The [T-Series] banner was his father’s (the late Gulshan Kumar) dream, and he has taken it so far. It was possible only because of the emotional connect between them. Both of us are middle class at heart,” the proud wife stated.
Satyamev Jayate 2 is due to be released on 2 October.
