The cast members were interviewed about the ambitious project, which adapts Vikram Seth's 1993 novel for the screen for the first time. Set in 1951, just a few years after India's independence, the story follows young university student Lata Mehra and her family's search for 'a suitable boy' for her to settle down with.
Khatter also shared a sneak peek at his and Maniktala’s characters for the trade event. “Coming your way summer 2020,” he announced in his Instagram post.
The series has been adapted by Andrew Davies, known for his previous period adaptations of Vanity Fair, Pride and Prejudice and War & Peace for the small screen.
Produced by Lookout Point, the BBC series is expected to air on the British channel sometime this June. A Suitable Boy also features Rasika Dugal, Namit Das, Vijay Varma, and Ram Kapoor in key roles.
