The makers of Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad (2020) have come out with a second trailer of the film, which is quite unlike second trailers seen generally. It starts off with scenes similar to the first. The moment the husband (Pavail Gulati) slaps his wife (Taapsee Pannu), you feel it is going to play out exactly like the first trailer.
But therein lies the twist, as Pannu breaks the fourth wall and addresses the audience. She tells them that even though they would be eager to move on to the next part of the trailer, it would not be easy for her to move on after being slapped by her husband.
More surprisingly, she asks viewers to report the trailer to YouTube for abuse, claiming that that any video of depicting violence has no right to stay on the internet and should be reported. We need to wait and see whether people will actually report the video and call for it to be removed from YouTube.
Thappad is Sinha’s third social drama after Mulk (2018) and Article 15 (2019). The film also stars Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Tanvi Azmi and Kumud Mishra.
Thappad is due to be released on 28 February. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you would be watching the film:
