Kalki Koechlin, partner Guy Hershberg welcome daughter Sappho

Kalki Koechlin and partner Guy Hershberg have welcomed their first child, a daughter named Sappho, on 7 February.  The couple, who have been dating for two years, announced last October that Koechlin was expecting. The actress made the official announcement of her daughter's birth through Instagram, sharing a photograph of her stamped feet.

"Thank you for all the good wishes and positive energy pouring in. And respect to all the women who go through the intense and gruesome experience of birth, be it vaginal, or c section, so many of whom are not given credit or support for the biggest challenges they face, but are expected to do it out of some kind of duty. The process takes a huge toll both psychological and physical and should have the backing of an entire community to truly heal," Koechlin wrote with her photograph online.

She ended her post with a quote from the Greek poet Sappho, who was the couple's inspiration for their daughter's name. "And a reminder to each and every human being of where we started, being formed from tiny molecules to conscious, beautiful beings. "Some say an army of horsemen or infantry, A fleet of ships is the fairest thing on the black earth, but I say It's what one loves." ~Sappho~ circa 600BC," Koechlin added.

Her former co-stars and colleagues Sumeet Vyas, Farhan Akhtar, Konkona Sensharma, Richa Chadha posted their wishes for the actress on Instagram.

The actress has kept busy during her pregnancy and has acted in Dibakar Banerjee's next project on Netflix titled Freedom, along with Naseeruddin Shah, Manisha Koirala, Huma Qureshi, Divya Dutta, Zoya Hussain, Shashank Arora and Neeraj Kabi. Last year, she was part of the ensemble for the web-series, Made In Heaven on Amazon Prime, Sacred Games on Netflix, and Bhram on Zee5, as well as Zoya Akhtar's hip-hop drama, Gully Boy (2019).
