The teaser of the upcoming Hindi web-series Zidd is centred on the journey of a passionate soldier (Amit Sadh) who is consigned to a wheelchair due to a battle injury. The story highlights the protagonist's grit and determination to stand on his own two feet again.
The story instantly brings to mind filmmaker Shaad Ali's Soorma (2018), which saw Diljit Dosanjh portray former Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh. The biopic depicted the comeback of the sportsman, who was wheelchair bound following an accident.
The teaser is also reminiscent of Sunny Deol’s character in Sameer Karnik’s Heroes (2008). However, the character, a former Air Force pilot, had accepted his fate and did not let his wheelchair come in the way when it came to clobbering legions of bad guys.
Zidd, however, is based on a true story. It has a fresh look, and its visuals, which include breathtaking shots of Kashmir, are different from the aforementioned movies.
Sadh had played a soldier earlier this year in the series Avrodh - The Siege Within. However, his new role seems unlike anything he has done before. The actor appears to be a good fit for the character as he brings both vulnerability and toughness to the table. The series also features Sushant Singh and Amrita Puri, who had appeared together in Kai Po Che! (2013).
Zidd will be streamed on Zee5 from 21 January 2021.
