Didn’t think we would get Sanjay Mishra on board for Andaman, says Anand Raaj

Andaman marks the directorial debut of film publicist Smita Singh.

Film publicist Smita Singh has turned filmmaker with the movie Andaman, which stars Sanjay Mishra. Produced by 8 Pillars Motion Pictures, the film has been written by Anand Raaj, who is also playing one of the pivotal characters in the film.

A statement from the makers said, “The film is an inspirational social drama around a quarantine centre in an unprivileged village. It deals with the harsh realities of our society with great sense of humour. The shooting took place in Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. This film will hit the screen next year.”

Anand Raaj, who is also making his acting debut in Andaman, was fascinated by the experience of working with Mishra. “I was mesmerized with his ability to add a unique heroism while maintaining the essence of the character," the writer said. "He can take a scene to a different level merely using a small gesture. You can learn so much from him even when he is not in front of the camera. I am extremely fortunate to have worked with him as an actor and writer.”

As a writer, Anand Raaj had written the character with Mishra in mind. But he never thought the veteran would agree to do the film. “He is a gift from the universe to us for this film," he exulted. "While writing his character I envisioned that someone like Sanjay sir could do justice to it. And that it was almost impossible to get him on board due to our limitations. But he said yes to our film to support us!”
