Veteran actor Ranjeet recently made his web-series debut in the comedy show Becharey. The series went live on the Rapchee Originals app on 25 December. Directed by Kranti Pratap Singh, Becharey stars newcomers such as Amita Yadav, Sandeep Shrivastava, Prateek Chaudhary, Sambhav Jain, Himanshu Bhatt and Rahul Datta.
Interestingly, Ranjeet plays a version of himself in the series. “I play Ranjeet, who is sent by a landlord to the Becharey house as I need to stay with some young boys for a role. And the fun begins. Becharey is pure entertainment that doesn't drag,” said the veteran actor in a statement.
Explaining his reasons for choosing this series, Ranjeet said, “I was looking at various scripts and ideas. I really liked the idea of acting with a very young talented team in a story from their generation. I really enjoyed the shoot. It is a comedy and there was freedom to create. The director gave us lots of freedom and had a fresh approach. The production was very professional.”
According to a statement by Becharey's makers, the show is about a bunch of young men and women who are struggling in their personal and professional lives.
Singh said it was a delight to direct Ranjeet. “I consider myself extremely blessed to be saying ‘action’ in front of Ranjeet sir, who is a treasure [trove] of experience, whom we all have grown up watching. It was an extreme learning process for all of us,” he said.
Mostly known for his villainous roles, Ranjeet has appeared in over 300 films since the early 1970s. Over the last decade, he has played zany characters in Housefull 2 (2012) and Housefull 4 (2019). The poster of Becharey sees the actor's catchphrase from the Housefull series 'Aaaheeey' in a speech bubble above his head.
