Kalki Koechlin, Neena Gupta to star together in international project titled Goldfish

The British-American film will be helmed by cinematographer-turned-director Pushan Kripalani and it will go on the floors early next year in the United Kingdom.

Kalki Koechlin and Neena Gupta are coming together to star in an international project directed by Pushan Kripalani titled Goldfish (2021).

The younger actress, who has previously worked with Kripalani on The Treshold (2018), was excited to begin on the project. She wrote: So excited about GOLDFISH! Thrilled to be working with the actor I so deeply admire — Neena Gupta — on our first international project together! Can’t wait to kickstart the shoot."

Goldfish, which is co-written by Kripalani and Arghya Lahiri, is the story of an estranged mother and daughter, played by Gupta and Koechlin, who reunite after many years. Set in London, the film follows the women rediscovering their relationship in a story focused on memories, mental health and identity, according to a report in the Mid-Day newspaper.

"When he came to me with this script, I was excited as well as nervous, as it's a challenging role," Gupta told Mid-Day. She plays a character who shows signs of early dementia. "Pushan gives complete creative freedom to his actors," the actress added.

"Neenaji is an amazing actor. Also, I have worked closely with Arghya, who has co-written the script, during my theatre days. So it'll be a happy union of people from different walks of life," Koechlin said.

Filming for the British-American project, which is being produced by Splendid Films, is due to begin early next year in the UK.
