Shrikant Bashir trailer: Gashmeer Mahajani, Yudhishthir Singh try to save Mumbai from Ebola virus

The SonyLIV web-series is an action saga involving two counter-terror specialists played by Gashmeer Mahajani and Yudhishthir Singh.

SonyLIV’s upcoming web-series Shrikant Bashir is the thriller involving two counter-terror specialists, the titular Shrikant Mhatre and Bashir Khan, played by Gashmeer Mahajani and Yudhishthir Singh respectively.

Shrikant, who leads the Surgical Operations Team (SOT) in Mumbai, isn't a stickler when it comes to following protocol and refuses to stand on ceremony, while his team member Bashir is the exact opposite. The clashing natures of the protagonists create conflict between duo.

The SOT captures the terrorist Samarullah, the second-in-command of a terrorist group, Hizbul-e-Badr. But he happens to be afflicted by the deadly Ebola virus. In order to force the Indian authorities to release Samarullah, his brother Hazizullah (Tareeq Ahmed Khan) threatens to unleash the virus in Mumbai.

Shrikant Bashir appears to be a high-octane action series although some stunt sequences seem tacky. The idea of spreading a deadly virus in Mumbai brings to mind Harry Baweja’s Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003). However, the overall story of Shrikant Bashir differs greatly from the film, with the Ebola angle ensuring that the series doesn’t appear like just another action thriller dealing with terrorism.

Mahajani, who has acted in quite a few Marathi films, always seemed a perfect fit for an action saga and it is nice to see him bag one finally. Singh also appears to suit his role.

Shrikant Bashir will be streamed on SonyLIV from 11 December.
