Ram Prasad Ki Tehrvi song 'Ek Adhoora Kaam': Sagar Desai's lovely ditty revives childhood memories

Sung by Ninad Kamat and Arnab Chakraborty, the song's lyrics have been penned by Neeraj Pandey.

The loss of a parent often leaves adults feeling like helpless children. It is an emotion that is hard to describe, but Neeraj Pandey's lyrics and Sagar Desai's wonderfully understated composition capture the emotions of Seema Pahwa's Ram Prasad Ki Tehrvi quite well. Sung by Ninad Kamat and Arnab Chakraborty, the tune shines a light on the sentimental journey of three brothers who revisit their childhood through a song.

The song takes place, as does the film, in the midst of the last rites of the titular Ram Prasad. The three brothers, who don't see eye to eye, attempt to bond over a childhood ditty their father would sing. As they sing along, trying to recall the lines, they slowly overcome their differences and unite for the sake of their late father.

The song is wonderfully composed and has the rhythm and ease of a childhood rhyme. There are no unnecessary frills to the composition, which mostly comprises Chakraborty and Kamat's singsong recitation. This lends the tune an authentic feel that plays well with the sepia-tinted visuals. The simple organ melody in the background, basic beat and wonderful lyrics contribute to the magic.

Pandey's lyrics capture the emotions of children who still remember the whimsical tales and colours of childhood.

Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi will be released in theatres on 1 January 2021.
