After Shakuntala Devi (2020), which was premiered on Amazon Prime Video, Abundantia Entertainment and director Anu Menon are coming together again for a new film.
The screenplay of the yet untitled feature, a murder mystery, is currently in the final stages of writing. Meanwhile, principal photography on the new film is expected to begin in April or May 2021.
Menon stated that she was happy to return to Abundantia Entertainment for her next project. She said in a press release, “I had a great time telling Shakuntala Devi’s story with Vikram [Malhotra] and the team led by Shikhaa [Sharma]. Their passion for telling compelling stories and commitment to a director’s vision are rare to find. We have a very different story coming up this time round and I hope we receive the same love from the audience as we did for our first collaboration together.”
Abundantia Entertainment’s CEO and founder Vikram Malhotra added, “We had an amazing time working with Anu on Shakuntala Devi and the film has become a bit of a landmark in terms of how it has connected with viewers all across the world. Anu has a unique storytelling style and her stories are underpinned with strong woman characters that fit in well with Abundantia's vision of telling impactful stories.”
Shakuntala Devi had its digital premiere on 31 July and was seen in 200 countries. Vidya Balan played the genius mathematician who was widely known as the ‘human computer’. The film also starred Sanya Malhotra as Shakuntala’s daughter, as well as Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta.
