Aritra Mukherjee’s directorial debut Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti (2020) has been selected in the Indian Panorama section at the 51st International Film Festival of India, which will be held in January next year.

Starring Ritabhari Chakraborty and Soham Majumder, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti focuses on the need for equal opportunities for women in every sphere of social life. Chakraborty essays the character of a female priest.

Delighted with the selection, Mukherjee expressed gratitude to his mentors and the film's producers, Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee. “When I started dreaming of making my first film, I was inspired and motivated by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee," he said, adding, "I am really grateful to my entire cast and crew without whom this would not have been possible.”

Along with the issue of equal rights for women in society, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti speaks of breaking out of age-old rituals, customs and taboos put in place to uphold patriarchy.

Happy to have launched a successful new director with their banner Windows Production House, Nandita Roy said, “My heart fills with pride that my young team of Windows has made it to the Indian Panorama. It is a great achievement for them as well as for Windows.”
