The makers of superstar Vijay's upcoming Tamil film Master (2021) have confirmed that they are eyeing a theatrical release when they announced that their film had been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification, popularly known as the censor board. If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Master will be released in cinemas in time for the Pongal festival next year.
The makers released a new poster with the U/A certification. However, they haven’t officially announced a release date.
Reliable sources in the Tamil film industry confirmed that the film is most likely to hit the screens for Pongal 2021. Apparently, the film will also be dubbed and released in Hindi.
Master features Vijay as a college professor with a violent past. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist.
Master, which also stars Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Andrea Jeremiah, has been produced by Xavier Britto and marks the maiden collaboration of Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
The makers have clarified many times that the film will not skip a theatrical release and go directly on to any OTT (over-the-top) platform.
A couple of months ago, reports had said Master had been offered a deal worth Rs125 crore by Amazon Prime Video for an exclusive online release. However, the claim was laid to rest by executive producer Lalit.
Recently, speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Lokesh said Master will be released in theatres and there is no change in that plan.
This was the third time someone associated with the project had clarified about the release. In July, producer Xavier Britto said he had no plan to release Master on any OTT platform and prefers to take it to the big screen.
