Ranbir Kapoor had signed on for a film by director Luv Ranjan in 2018 but the project met delays. The actor has just revealed that the film is about to go on the floors in the next few days. In an interview with veteran journalist Rajeev Masand, Kapoor also disclosed that he will appear in Kabir Singh (2019) director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s next project.
“Yes, I start that [Luv Ranjan] film on 5 January. It’s a film we have been waiting to start since a year and a half. But as you know Brahmastra and Shamshera took a while. And the other film I have signed is Sandeep [Reddy] Vanga’s, which I will start some time mid next year (sic),” said Kapoor. Ranjan's film sees Kapoor paired opposite Shraddha Kapoor.
There have been unconfirmed reports about the actor being on board for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra (2021). Asked about this, Kapoor was quick to say, “No, it’s a complete rumour. I haven’t been offered any film by him.”
Kapoor’s last film was Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju (2018), which released one and a half years ago. Opening up about his apparent break between films, Kapoor said, “I know films take time. We haven’t been lazy about it. We have been working hard to make the final product good,” he said.
The actor also said he had been advised by various people to be more visible. “It’s been a while [since his film released], so there are a lot of things that other people around you say like, maybe at this time you should have been on social media, you should be more out there, you should give interviews. But if it doesn’t naturally come to me, I just can’t do it,” said Kapoor.
