After playing supporting characters in films such as Fukrey (2013), Singham Returns (2015) and 3 Storeys (2018), Ankit Rathi is now all set to be the leading man in the upcoming film Bolo Hau.

The actor believes his previous films helped him along the way. “Fukrey was my very first experience of a film set, so I was very nervous to the point where Ali Fazal, who I was sharing the screen with, sensed it and talked me out of it. Singham Returns was a huge deal for me not only because I had a longer part to play this time around but just to be in a Rohit Shetty film sharing screen space with stars like Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan was special. I learnt a lot,” said Rathi in a statement.

His character Suhail Ansari in 3 Storeys had the maximum screentime. “It was actually my first stint at playing a primary character in a mainstream movie. A big production house like Excel Entertainment [which was] backing the project made my job easy. Right from the director of the film to all the co-actors — they were so kind and never made me feel like a newcomer,” he added.

Rathi had to speak Hindi in a Hyderabadi accent in Bolo Hau, which was a big challenge for him. “I was meeting people in Mumbai who were from Hyderabad and trying to pick up certain mannerisms and the dialect but I was just not confident. My confidence started to build up slowly when I arrived in Hyderabad before the shoot. The entire environment was filled with Hyderabadi people. That's when I started to get the hang of it,” he added.

Bolo Hau will be released in January 2021. The film marks the debut of actress Jahnavi Dhanrajgir.
