Madhur Bhandarkar’s next film, India Lockdown, to be based on COVID-19 lockdown

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has announced his next film India Lockdown, which is expected to be based on events that unfolded in light of the precautionary measures taken by the country earlier this year to combat the coronavirus pandemic. 

Bhandarkar will also be producing the film under his banner, Bhandarkar Entertainment, along with PJ Motion Pictures. India Lockdown will go on the floors next month. Although the cast and the main plot are currently being kept under wraps, the makers have said in a statement that the film will be based on real events. 

Bhandarkar last feature film, Indu Sarkar (2017), was based on the Emergency imposed by India’s former prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. It starred Kirti Kulhari.  

Following this, the filmmaker made an acclaimed short film starring Annu Kapoor and Parvin Dabas the same year titled Mumbai Mist.
