The International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2021 will see PS Vinothraj's Koozhangal (Pebbles) compete with 15 other films in the prestigious HIVOS Tiger Competition.

The Tamil film tells the story of a poverty-stricken father and son who have a deeply troubled relationship but are inexorably drawn together.

Two films from the South will also be premiered in the festival's Big Screen Competition section — Rajeev Ravi's Thuramukham (The Harbour) and M Manikandan's Kadaisi Vivasayi (The Last Farmer). Featuring Nivin Pauly, Nimisha Sajayan and Biju Menon, Thuramukham tells the tale of a workers' uprising in Kerala in the 1940s and 50s.

Kadaisi Vivasaayi has been described as a highly original Indian drama about the importance of agricultural traditions. The trailer of the film, featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu, was launched back in 2019.

The International Film Festival of Rotterdam is set to take place between 1-7 February and later on 2-6 June 2021.
