Coolie No 1 song ‘Mirchi Lagi Toh’: Makers' laboured efforts to wow audience are too obvious

The only good that comes out of this remix is the reunion of Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, who crooned the original number from the 1995 film.

The trailer of David Dhawan’s Coolie No 1, which is the remake of his own film of the same name, fell flat in its attempt to bowl over audiences with its flashy production values and the sheer power of nostalgia.

The same can be said about its latest song ‘Mirchi Lagi Toh', a remix of the song ‘Main Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha’ from the original film, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor.

The makers have left no stone unturned to recreate the 1990s through some expensive production design, and Varun and Khan emulate Govinda and Kapoor to the best of their ability while Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, who crooned the original number, reunite for the remix.

But despite all this, the song, in terms of both the audio and visuals, is far from enjoyable simply because the film's laboured attempts to impress the audience are all too obvious. The only good thing to come out of this remix is the reunion of Sanu and Yagnik after so many years, but then again their vocals constantly remind you of the old song. Varun and Khan have good chemistry, but that’s about all the song has going for it.

Coolie No 1 will be released on 25 December on Amazon Prime Video.

Watch the song and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
