After Vivek Oberoi's PM Narendra Modi (2019) and the Jayalalithaa biopic Thalaivi (2021), starring Kangana Ranaut, yet another influential Indian politician, Mulayam Singh Yadav, will be immortalized on celluloid.

The film's director Suvendu Ghosh, in a conversation during the LIFFT India Filmotsav, revealed some interesting details about his project, Main Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"Although this is a film about a politician, this is not just a political film," the filmmaker said. "This is the story of how one young guy who was a wrestler in a small village in the 1970s becomes the CM of Uttar Pradesh. The film shows his struggles with poverty and how, despite being the son of a farmer, he climbs the ladder of politics with his sheer willpower," he said.

Ghosh revealed that the film would focus on the era between 1970 and 1989.

The film stars Amyth Sethi and features Mimoh Chakraborty, Govind Namdev, Mukesh Tiwari, Supriya Karnik, Sayaji Shinde and Prakash Belawadi. "Amyth Sethi was 85 kg when I selected him for this role. He had to shed almost 20 kg," said the director.

Ghosh also recalled the moment when he met the actual politician for the first time. "I met him and his family. When I told Mulayam sir about my project, he immediately gave us permission to go ahead," he said.

Main Mulayam Singh Yadav is being produced by Meena Sethi Mondal under the banner MS Films & Productions.
