Cheeni song 'Tomar Chokher Shitolpati': A warm and tender ballad

The innocent quality of Lagnajita Chakraborty’s vocals does great justice to the mood of the song.

The song 'Tomar Chokher Shitolpati' from Mainak Bhaumik’s upcoming film Cheeni is a soothing number that evokes the warmer aspects of a complex mother-daughter relationship, which is often wracked by emotional conflict. Composed by Prasen and written by Ritam Sen, the song has been softly rendered by Lagnajita Chakraborty.

The film is centred on the titular character, played by Madhumita Sarkar and her rocky relationship with her mother (Aparajita Adhya). While the trailer highlighted the friction between the mother and daughter, the song offers glimpses into their moments of quiet reflection after heated confrontations. Also, Cheeni can be seen sobbing and desperately trying to piece together a photo frame she had broken to prove a point to her mother.

'Tomar Chokher Shitolpati' showcases the tenderness that seemed missing from the equation in the trailer. The song not only speaks of care and affection but also presents the duo as friends as they go shopping and take the time to pour their hearts out to each other.

Prasen’s tune is simple and the melody suits the lyrics, which are a cry for solace. The innocent quality of Chakraborty’s vocals does justice to the mood of the song as well.

The film is slated to be released on 24 December.
