Gondhal is a popular folk musical art form in Maharashtra, one that has been featured in quite a few Marathi films. But now, for perhaps the first time, the Marathi audience will get to watch a film based entirely on the tradition.
First-time filmmaker Uday Jadhav is coming up with a musical drama called Sambal which will shed light on the traditions of Gondhal and the people who dedicate their lives to this art form.
Produced by Avinash Satale, the film stars Suhas Palshikar, Nandesh Umap, Megha Ghadge, Parth Ghatge, Satale himself and Prajakta Kelkar.
The makers announced the film by unveiling its first title poster. The film's story and screenplay have been written by Rupali Kuthe and Uday Jadhav while the music has been composed by Mangesh Dhakde.
Sambal won multiple awards at the Dadasaheb Phalke Golden Camera awards and at the International Film Festival of Ahmednagar.
