Pankaj Tripathi's Kaagaz to be released on Zee5 on 7 January

The film helmed by Satish Kaushik will simultaneously be released in a few cinema halls in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

After two years of waiting, audiences will finally get to see Pankaj Tripathi's film Kaagaz. The film is now slated to be released on the Zee5 OTT (over-the-top) platform on 7 January 2021.

Interestingly, the film will be also released simultaneously in selected cinema halls in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Presented and produced by Salman Khan, Kaagaz is based on the life of Bharat Lal aka Lal Bihari from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, who fought a legal battle for 18 years to prove that he was alive.

Lal Bihari had been declared dead by his relations who were looking to usurp his property. Kaagaz had gone on the floor in October 2018 and shooting concluded the following month.

Writer-director Satish Kaushik is really happy that Zee5 has decided to come on board. "It felt to me like this story deserved to be told to the world and we could have not asked for a better production partner than Salman Khan Films (SKF) and Zee5 to showcase it," the filmmaker told the News18 website. "Now it’s just a click away for audiences.”

Tripathi told the website that he was excited to be a part of an inspiring story like Kaagaz. “My character will be quite different from some of my recent ventures and I am excited to be part of such an inspiring story," the popular actor said. "This story needs to be heard and I am definite that Zee5 will give it the reach it deserves."
