The period film, based on the true story of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, is being directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma.

The release date of the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan (2021) has been shifted to Dussehra, which falls on 15 October 2021.
The film, which sees Devgn play former national football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, was to be released on 27 November 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed the production. Shooting for the project, which is being directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, had already begun in Lucknow, Kolkata and Mumbai when filming was halted due to the lockdown.
The release date was later pushed to 11 December 2020 and then 13 August 2021.
Devgn announced on Saturday that shooting would resume in January 2021. A new poster with the latest release date sees Devgn in the foreground, with his team lined up to his side.

According to the producer, 65% of the film has been shot and the last schedule will wrap up by April 2021. As it is a period film, extensive visual effects work is required, which is underway in London, Los Angeles and Canada.
Actress Priyamani plays Devgn’s wife, while Gajraj Rao and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh are also part of the cast.
Maidaan is being produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta and will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The screenplay has been written by Saiwyn Quadras and the dialogues are by Ritesh Shah.
