Omprakash Zindabad, which stars the late actors Om Puri and Jagdeep, is due to be released in theatres on 18 December. The title of the satirical film, which was originally Rambhajjan Zindabad, was changed to honour Puri.
Puri, a National Award-winning actor, died in 2017 and several of his films such as The Ghazi Attack (2017), Tubelight (2017), and Gul Makai (2020) have been released posthumously. The veteran actor and comedian Jagdeep died in July and was last seen on the big screen in Gali Gali Chor Hai (2012).
Omprakash Zindabad, produced by Khalid Kidwai and directed by Ranjeet Gupta, features Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Khushboo Kamal, Ishtiyak Khan and Zakir Hussain.
Speaking about the delay in the film’s release, Kidwai said, "After the film was completed, it faced a lot of issues with regard to the censor board and then Om Puri's demise. We had finally received the green signal from the censor board but due to Covid-19, it was again put on hold."
Thanking Panorama Studios, the producer said, "This film is a tribute to the late Om Puri as it is his last film. The name Omprakash Zindabad is dedicated to him. I hope audiences will like this satire. Also, it is my tribute to Jagdeep sir as it is also his last film. I'm very happy that the film is being released and emotional because both the amazing actors [are] not present among us,” he said.
