Ashutosh Gowariker, Bhushan Kumar to produce sports drama Toolsidas Junior; see poster

Actor Rajiv Kapoor will return to the big screen after 30 years in Toolsidas Junior (2021), which is being produced by Ashutosh Gowariker Productions and T-Series.

The sports drama, written and directed by Mridul, also stars Sanjay Dutt and Varun Buddhadev.

Toolsidas Junior, whose poster was released today, focuses on a young boy’s quest to win a snooker championship, with the guidance of Kapoor and Dutt.

The poster sees an upturned hand holding a snooker ball which reflects a large golden trophy. In the background, there is a large crowd that has gathered to watch the proceedings. The poster’s tagline reads, ‘Bachcha hai, phaad dega!’ It is likely that the film is an underdog story where the protagonist prevails against all odds.

Toolsidas Junior had been announced back in 2018. Kapoor’s last onscreen role was in Zimmedaaar (1990) and he later went on to direct Prem Granth (1996) and produce Aa Ab Laut Chale (1999) for his family banner RK Films.

Writer-director Mridul had earlier co-directed Missed Call (2005), which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. He had also co-written the screenplay of the Konkani hit film Nachom-ia Kumpasar (2015).

Gowariker and T-Series' Bhushan Kumar had previously joined hands for the music of Swades (2004) and other films.

No release date has been set for the film as yet.
