Urmila Matondkar officially joins Shiv Sena

The actress said she would look forward to the blessings of the people while continuing her political journey.

Actress Urmila Matondkar joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of party chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai on Tuesday. The actress had joined the Congress in 2019.

Matondkar contested the Mumbai North seat in the 2019 general elections on a Congress ticket but lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopal Shetty by a whopping 4.65 lakh votes. In September 2019, the actress quit the party, citing “petty in-house politics” in its Mumbai unit.

In October this year, the Shiv Sena named Matondkar for nomination to the Maharashtra legislative council. The Congress and Shiv Sena are coalition partners in the state government of Maharashtra.

In a short video that was posted shortly after the announcement was made, the actress said she would look forward to the blessings of the people while continuing her political journey and expressed her gratitude to the Shiv Sena chief.
