Actor Saurabh Saraswat, well known for his performance in the award-winning film CRD (2017), the Zee5 original series Mafia (2020) and Cat Sticks (2019), will soon be seen playing a homosexual painter in Preet Gohil’s short film Gray (2018). The film is likely to be streamed on an OTT platform soon.
The Hindi short also features Shilpi Singh as Nandini and Sandeep Dhabale as Rohit. Nandini is married to Rohit and is unaware that her husband is in a relationship with Saraswat's Zoel.
Zoel, on the other hand, understands Nandini’s feeling of suffocation in a marriage of compromises. Matters take a complex turn when Rohit, in order to rid himself of his guilt and divert his wife's attention, decides that they shoud have a child through IVF.
However, Zoel doesn’t accept the development as per Rohit’s expectations and is disgusted with his decision of trying to balance his relationship with his wife and his partner.
“To prepare for this character, I not only watched a lot of documentaries on great painters and read about homosexuality, but I also practiced this internal freedom while performing Zoel,” said Saraswat, whose character is free-spirited soul in the film. “My director and a very close friend, Preet trusted me with Zoel and made things really fun for me,” he added.
According to the actor, the protagonist’s insight into his wife’s sacrifice in the film becomes a turning point as he reconsiders his ideas of love and marriage. “Gray not only touches upon homosexuality, but it also takes us beyond our gender choices to understand and connect to a human being,” said Saraswat.
