Actress Anurita Jha is playing a small but crucial role in Prakash Jha's Aashram (2020). Released on Friday on the MX Player OTT platform, Aashram is about a dodgy 'god-man' played by Bobby Deol and his murky business. The multi-starrer series sees Jha play Kavita, a widowed devotee of the supposed holy man.
Talking about her role, the actress said, “During the shooting in Ayodhya [in the state of Uttar Pradesh], I got to know that after I came on board for the role of Kavita, the role was given a more powerful narrative knowing that I would be playing it, and that made me very excited and proud.”
Best known for her role as Shama Parveen in Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012), the actress was last seen in the episode titled Topaz in the Zee5 web-series Parchhayee (2019).
Along with Jha, Aashram features Aditi Pohankar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Anupriya Goenka and Darshan Kumaar. The nine-episode web-series tells the story of Baba Nirala (Deol), also known as Babaji of Kashipur, and how he manipulates the people into believing he is a messiah of the poor and the downtrodden.
