Akshay Kumar's Rakhi gift to sister: Announces film titled Raksha Bandhan

The actor dedicates the film, directed by Aanand L Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma, to his sister Alka and the brother-sister bond.

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, actor Akshay Kumar sprang a surprise when he announced Raksha Bandhan (2021), a film directed by Aanand L Rai and produced under his banner, Colour Yellow Production. This will be the first collaboration between Akshay and Rai.  ,

Sharing the film's poster, the actor said that he has never signed a film so quickly. “A story that touches your heart so deeply and so instantly, it’s the quickest I’ve signed a film in my career. Dedicating this film, Raksha Bandhan to my sister, Alka and to the most special bond in the world, that of a brother and sister. Thank you Aanand L Rai. This one is very special.”

The poster of Raksha Bandhan sees the actor flanked by four young girls, presumbly his sisters, giving him a warm hug. If indeed they are his sisters, they appear to be a little too young to be his siblings. The tagline of the poster [translated] reads, “Only sisters give 100% return.”

The film is slated to release next year during Diwali,  on 5 November. Interestingly, Akshay’s Sooryavanshi (2020) is slated to release on Diwali this year.

The film is written by Himanshu Sharma, a long time associate of Rai.
