Film producer SP Charan said the legendary singer, his father, is showing signs of improvement in his condition.

Film producer SP Charan said today that his father, the legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who has been in hospital for over two weeks, is slowly showing signs of improvement in his health.

In a video message, Charan said: “Dad is progressing slowly towards good health. Compared to yesterday, there is a little improvement in his lungs and the signs are all positive. The doctors are confident.”

Charan requested people to continue praying for his father’s recovery.

SPB, as the singer in popularly known, got himself admitted to Chennai's MGM Healthcare after testing positive for the coronavirus on 5 August. On 14 August his condition deteriorated and he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and put on ventilator support. He remained on the ventilator throughout last week as his vital signs were closely monitored.

In its latest health bulletin on Friday, the hospital said, 'SP Balasubrahmanyam continues to be on ventilator and ECMO support in the intensive care unit. His current clinical condition is stable. He is conscious, responsive and participating in passive physiotherapy. He continues to be closely monitored by our multidisciplinary clinical team.'

On Thursday, several members of the Tamil film fraternity came together to pray for Balasubrahmanyam's speedy recovery. A mass prayer meet was organized in which several celebrities prayed for SPB’s recovery while playing one of his songs.

Charan in an earlier video thanked everybody, especially the film fraternity, for organizing the prayer meet for his father’s speedy recovery. “I would also like to thank the film industry, music industry, and people all over the country. We as a family are very grateful for your love and affection,” he said.
