Musician, composer Tabun Sutradhar dies of heart attack

Sutradhar played the guitar in many songs from Hindi films like Baazigar (1993), Darr (1993), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Raja Hindustani (1996) and Pardes (1997), among others. 

Musician and composer Tabun Sutradhar died yesterday due to a heart attack. He had just undergone a bypass surgery last month. 

Sutradhar’s close friend and fellow musician Raj Sharma told Cinestaan.com, "He had done a bypass surgery just a month back. He had recovered and was fine. He even used to tell his friends that he was saved because of their prayers. But yesterday he suddenly had a heart attack. He was being taken to the hospital but he passed away on the way.”

Sharma, who is a tabla player, told us that Sutradhar would be around 65 or 66 years old. 

Sutradhar was a well-known guitar player and started working in the industry in 1979. He has played the guitar in many songs from Hindi films of the 1990s, like Thanedaar (1990), Jaan Tere Naam (1992), Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee (1993), Baazigar (1993), Darr (1993), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Raja Hindustani (1996), Pardes (1997), Dhadkan (2000) and Andaaz (2003), among others. 

Sutradhar also began composing for films and his first film as composer was Yash (1996). One of the songs from the film, 'Subah Subah Jab Khidki Khole’ went on to become a chartbuster. Some of his other films as composer included Loha (1997), Joggers' Park (2003), Tak Jhal Mishti (Bengali, 2002), Khanna & Iyer (2007) and Aamras: The Sweet Taste Of Friendship (2009). 

Many from the Hindi film industry have condoled Sutradhar’s death. Veteran composer Bappi Lahiri shared a picture of Sutradhar accompanying him on his guitar on Facebook and wrote, “I am deeply saddened hearing of my most important team member and one of India’s most talented musician Tabun Sutradhar passing. God Bless him, he was a wonderful person he has worked with me on all of my films since 1979. RIP.” 

Music composer Jeet Gannguli condoled his death on Twitter. “Great Guitar player, Arranger and Music composer Tabun Sutradhar passes away. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti,” he posted.
